SPOKANE, Wash. – Lots of fans in Salt Lake City are covered in Gonzaga gear for the tournament, but back in Spokane, people are equally decked out.
The Zag Shop at the University Bookstore is just one of many stores seeing non-stop traffic with people coming in and out regularly.
A current Gonzaga student spoke with KHQ Local News early on Friday as he bought some new outfits for his thirteen month old boy. The boy's mother, father and uncle all attended the school, so they want to foster the love of the university's basketball team for their son at a young age.
"Oh man, he's got some sweatshirts. I think he has a hat at the house. And we're going to get him a T-shirt today since Spring is coming," John Pristchard said, referencing his son, Thatcher.
Fans of both the men's and women's basketball teams come in to the store. The Assistant Store Manager, Brendan Mack, told KHQ, excitement is in the air as fans anticipate Saturday's game. If the Zags win, they'll play in the Sweet 16, making it a very important game for both the players and their fans.
The Zag Shop has accommodated their closing hours to make sure their customers get all the merchandize they are searching for. The Bracket T shirt is the newest commodity that hit shelves this morning, but it's not just students seeking them out.
"Sales have been great. Business has been very busy. A lot of fans coming through the doors every day, not just from campus, not just students, but busloads from retirement communities, people from out of state, People from Couer D'Alene are coming in," Mack said.
As the Zags continue to move forward in the tournament, the store's merchandise will change to reflect that. Fans hoping to score gear related to the games in Los Angeles and Atlanta will have to hold out until they see Saturday's scoreboard.
