**Press Release from Idaho State Police**
MERIDIAN - The Idaho State Police's Bureau of Criminal Identification has released their annual "Crime in Idaho" report for 2012. The report is a synopsis of statewide crime statistics gathered from law enforcement agencies across Idaho and includes such things as the Statewide Crime Profile, Crimes against Persons, Property, Society, the Arrest Profile, Hate Crime in Idaho, Law Enforcement Officers Killed or Assaulted, crimes categorized by jurisdiction and many other statistics.
Highlights from the "Facts at a Glance" page and the changes from those categories in 2011 include:
Crimes Against Persons, Crimes Against Property and Crimes Against Society, which are categorized as Group "A" Offenses have, overall, decreased 1.5%.
The Crime Rate in Idaho is 5,086.8 per 100,000 inhabitants. This statistic is based on Group "A" offenses and has also decreased 1.5%. Kootenai County crime rate increased by 9.3 percent, the highest of all Idaho counties.
The number of violent crimes has increased 5.2% from 2011 with 3,242 violent crime offenses reported to law enforcement.
Crimes Against Persons were down 1.3% with 17,523 reported crimes against persons.
In 2012, there were not any Idaho law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. Additionally, the number of assaults against law enforcement officers was down .8% from 2011, with a total of 240 assaults on officers.
Hate crimes were down by 7.7% with 36 reported hate crimes.
Crimes Against Society were up 2.0% from last year with 16,178 crimes reported and Crimes Against Property were down 2.7% with 47,446 reported crimes.
