COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - The Ironman competition kicks off Sunday. Athletes will swim 2.4 miles, ride 112 miles on their bikes, and finish off with a 26 mile run. The challenge doesn't stop with athletes. If you're in Coeur d'Alene and are trying to get anywhere downtown, you're going to have a problem unless you know all of the road closures and detours to watch out for:
IF YOU'RE DRIVING INTO DOWNTOWN BEGINNING THURSDAY, YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO GET ONTO SHERMAN AVENUE UNLESS YOU GO THROUGH SECOND, THIRD OR FIFTH STREET.
TRYING TO GET TO THE RESORT? TAKE FIRST STREET.
BLEACHERS WILL BE SET UP ON SHERMAN AVENUE BEGINNING THURSDAY EVENING AND THEY'LL REMAIN THERE UNTIL NEXT MONDAY.
DON'T PLAN ON PARKING AT THE INDEPENDENCE POINT PARKING LOT AFTER THURSDAY. IT'S STRICTLY FOR MEDICAL TENTS AND IRONMAN BOOTHS.
TRAFFIC LIGHTS AT THE INTERSECTION OF SECOND AND SHERMAN WILL BE ON RED FLASHING MODE.
MULLAN AVENUE FROM 17TH TO 23RD STREET WILL BE A NO PARKING ZONE BEGINNING SATURDAY THROUGH MONDAY.
DON'T PLAN ON LAUNCHING YOUR BOAT OFF HIGGINS POINT EITHER. COEUR D'ALENE LAKE DRIVE FROM SHERMAN AVENUE TILL THE BOAT LAUNCH WILL BE CLOSED 7 AM TO 4 PM SUNDAY.
