RATHDRUM, Idaho - Rathdrum police seized an illegal marijuana grow discovered last week. It is the largest grow found in Rathdrum, Idaho in a decade.Officers stumbled upon the grow because the suspect was losing his home to foreclosure. The man threatened the bank he was going to kill himself inside the home and ruin it so they wouldn't be able to sell it. The bank notified police, and when the police decided to check on his welfare they made an unusual discovery. "Officers responded just to check his welfare, and while they were checking his welfare, they noticed drug paraphernalia inside his house and also a strong smell of marijuana from the inside, so they pulled him out, talked to him a little bit, obtained a warrant, and went back in the residence," Rathdrum Police Chief Kevin Fuhr said. A spare bedroom contained 24 marijuana plants approximately eight inches in height, according to Rathdrum Police. The suspect has been identified as 34 year old Kristopher King who owned the property located at 6758 Majestic Avenue. He has been charged with possession of paraphernalia and manufacture of marijuana, which is a felony charge. He is currently out on bail.Officers believe he grew the plants for personal use and had no intention to distribute.
