COEUR D'ALENE, IDAHO - The Coeur d' Alene Police Department is investigating a construction site on Apricot Lane. A pair of thieves stole a brand new General Electric Microwave and Dishwasher as well as $1200 worth of power tools. It's not likely these thieves will be able to pawn them; it's more likely they will sell them via Craigslist or straight out of their home.
The man whose tools were stolen, Aaron Kirk, told KHQ that pair of thieves obviously didn't consider his livelihood was at stake. You might not think a man who can paint nails can also do work around the house, but Kirk is far from the norm. "I've been in contracting my whole adult life, all forms of contracting, all forms of construction," he told KHQ. Kirk and his wife recently opened Krazy Nails, Hair and Body Shop in Post Falls.
Until the small local business takes off, Kirk still moonlights in contract jobs. It was on a tile installation job at the house off of Apricot Lane that Aaron was robbed. "I made sure the house was completely locked, and all the windows were locked and the garage doors were down and latched and made sure it was secure. I went home for the evening, received a phone call about six o clock the next morning, that the house was broken into and I may have lost stuff and I needed to make a list for the police department."
While Copper Basin Construction Company, the builder of the home, lost a brand new microwave and dishwasher to those thieves under cover of night, Kirk lost his tools. It will take him awhile to replace all of them due to the unforeseen expense. He told KHQ he's not angry, he just wants the criminals apprehended.
And he wants them to know, "they're not stealing from a large corporation like Copper Basin, they're stealing from the small guys like me that do the work for Copper Basin and are not covered by a broad insurance policy. I'm a small business and I just didn't have the insurance to cover it. It's gone and I have to replace it." Kirk said he highly doubts he'll ever see those tools again, but the serial numbers of the appliances were turned into CDA PD. If you see an advertisement on Craigslist or hear of someone selling brand new kitchen appliances, think twice.
If you have a reason to believe they are stolen, call police and you may help to solve this crime.
